Pundit can’t believe Ramsdale could be named Arsenal captain after update via Sky
Danny Mills has insisted Aaron Ramsdale should not be named as the new Arsenal captain.
The former England defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 23-year-old doesn’t have the required understanding or experience to take on the role.
Arsenal confirmed in a statement on Tuesday (14 December) that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is no longer club captain after a disciplinary breach.

As quoted by Sky Sports on Saturday (18 December), Mikel Arteta confirmed the Gunners have “other captains” as part of a flexible “leadership group”.
However, striker Alexandre Lacazette has worn the armband in Arsenal’s last three matches.
When asked who could become the Gunners’ next skipper, Mills told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley: “Captains aren’t what they used to be.
“They don’t have the same influence as in days gone by, so I don’t think it’s a massive issue.
“It’s not a big problem for the manager, every player will know their role and there’s so many staff in this day and age doing different roles.
“I don’t think it should be a goalkeeper – especially a young goalkeeper in Ramsdale. He’s fairly new to the squad, as well.
“They train in their own groups, as well, and often times they can be in their own bubble.
“I’m not sure he quite understands the club yet or knows the players well enough. He’s too inexperienced in that regard.”

Ramsdale joined Arsenal from Sheffield United in a deal worth a reported initial fee of £24million.
The England international has impressed this term – keeping eight clean sheets in 14 league appearances.
