Pundit can’t believe West Ham could axe Pablo Fornals as £38m approach made

Kevin Campbell has claimed Pablo Fornals will be a key fixture at West Ham next season even if David Moyes’ side sign Arnaut Danjuma.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 26-year-old Spanish ace will be a useful asset as the ambitious Irons target glory in the Europa Conference League.

According to The Guardian (26 June), West Ham have approached Villarreal about signing Danjuma this summer but are aware they face stiff competition.

The Netherlands international winger reportedly has a £38million release clause in his contract – which expires in 2026.

Fornals, who is out of contract in June 2024, made 52 appearances across all competitions in the 2021/22 season – notching six goals and five assists.

Campbell urged West Ham to “invest” this summer as they look to preserve their status as a European challenger.

He claimed more depth is needed to stave off the injury problems which “decimated” the Hammers in the 2021/22 campaign.

He told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs: “Is Fornals at risk? Not for me.

“West Ham are going to want to be involved in every competition.

“They’ll want to go deep in the cups. They’re a club that now wants to win.

“They’re going to want to challenge, and they see themselves as a European challenger now.

West Ham

“They need to keep the likes of Fornals. They had injuries last season which decimated them, so they need the squad depth.

“They’ve got to invest this summer. They need more quality and more bodies.”
