Pundit cites Erling Haaland as ‘unbelievable’ Liverpool transfer claim made

Liverpool should have been more active in the transfer market this summer.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Reds’ start to the season.

Liverpool were beaten 4-1 by Napoli in their opening Champions League game on Wednesday (7 September).

The Reds have also only won two from six Premier League games this season.

Darwin Nunez, Calvin Ramsay, Fabio Carvalho and Arthur Melo all joined the club this summer.

However, Kenny claims more signings were required.

“I mean, you look at that midfield,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“They are all quite injury prone and they are all coming to the end of their careers. Don’t get me wrong, Henderson and Milner can do a job but should they really be starting against teams like Man United?

“It would take a big window for them to get anywhere near the depth Man City have. But with Mane going, you wonder if he has been properly replaced.

“Carvalho has scored now but Ramsay has barely played, those guys haven’t made the team any better, really. They are signings for the future, not now.

“Even Nunez isn’t proven, he isn’t this unbelievable player like Haaland, yet.

“You look at City and all of their signings have improved the first team, that’s the difference.”

Liverpool sit seventh in the Premier League after six games.

After the postponement of this weekend’s game against Wolves, the Reds will likely next be in action against Ajax on Tuesday (13 September).
