Pundit claims ‘nine players’ to ‘come straight in’ at Newcastle as revolution begins

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed he is “baffled” by the praise Joelinton is getting from Newcastle United fans and expects the club’s transfer revolution to begin soon.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward suggested the Brazilian is one of nine players who need to be replaced in the January transfer window.

Joelinton has started every Premier League game of Eddie Howe’s reign and has quickly turned around his reputation with the fans.

A £40million singing from Hoffenheim in the summer of 2019, the 25-year-old was handed the number nine shirt but scored just six goals in 69 Premier League games in his first two seasons.

In recent weeks he has dropped into midfield and Howe has revealed he is a big fan of the new-look Joelinton.

As quoted by the Guardian earlier this month (3 December), the Newcastle boss claimed he was a “huge” player for him and praised his “selfless mindset”.

“I don’t see anything that I’m watching that shows me any quality,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“People are raving about Joelinton but how many goals has he scored? How many assists has he got?

“It’s alright looking busy, I just don’t understand. It baffles me.

“They need like 11 new players, seriously. Eight or nine can come straight in. Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin can keep their place but the rest I’d get rid of, to be honest.”

Joelinton has scored once and provided an assist in 17 Premier League games this term, including 12 starts.

He is under contract at St. James’ Park until the summer of 2025.
