Pundit delivers ‘huge’ Man United sack verdict after Solskjaer latest

Noel Whelan has warned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer he is under “huge pressure” to produce a turnaround at Man United following their recent slump.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the coming months are “huge” for the 48-year-old’s future at Old Trafford.

Man United are winless in three Premier League games following their most recent defeat – a 4-2 loss against Leicester on Saturday.

According to Transfermarkt, the Red Devils had a net spend of £126million during the summer window, with Raphael Varane, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho all joining in an attempt to bridge the gap to their title rivals.

Man United are currently five points behind leaders Chelsea in the Premier League table.

Whelan insisted Man United’s summer business was supposed to be the “catalyst” for a title charge but now claims Solskjaer will be under “massive scrutiny” in the run-up to Christmas.

“Every manager will be under pressure if they aren’t winning football games, especially at a huge club like Manchester United,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“He’s under huge pressure. He’s brought in big players – Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Those three were supposedly going to be the catalyst for Man United to become title challengers – right now that doesn’t look possible.

“They’ve not won in three – that’s shocking for that Man United side.

“He’s under massive scrutiny. I don’t care what anyone says, he needs to string together some wins – and quickly.

“The next months leading up to Christmas are huge for Solskjaer.”
