Pundit delivers ‘incredible’ Rangers dressing room verdict after Van Bronckhorst claim
The experienced players in the Rangers dressing room will make sure there is no further hangover from Steven Gerrard’s departure, according to Kevin Phillips.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 2000 European Golden Shoe winner claimed the international break came at “the perfect time” for the Light Blues amid a change of manager at Ibrox.
The Gers sunk to a 3-1 Scottish League Cup semi-final defeat today in the first match since Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s appointment.
He watched from the stands at Hampden Park as he did not want to disrupt the players’ preparations for the clash.
As quoted by Sky Sports after his appointment, Van Bronckhorst heaped praise on the club’s “incredible supporters”.
Phillips expects those supporters to create a raucous atmosphere in the coming weeks.
“I think the break has come at the perfect time for Rangers,” he told Football Insider.
“The supporters have had a little bit of time to deal with it and get over it. There is no way they will let it derail their season. They will get behind their squad.
“The team is in a very healthy position. They are top of the league despite their cup exit.
“Van Bronckhorst knows the club and what the demands are. I do not expect any hangover.

“I think the atmosphere will be electric. The fans will get behind the team even more and create an incredible atmosphere.
“From the dressing room point of view, they’ll be fine. There are lot of experienced players in that dressing room and they will know that these things happen in football. People move on. It will be business as usual.”
