Pundit drops ‘massive’ Liverpool claim after Clarkson deal agreed

Leighton Clarkson is not a “top talent” and Liverpool are right to move him on.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton suggested that the Reds have left Clarkson leave because he has no future in the first team at Anfield.

Last week (15 June), Football Insider revealed that Scottish Premiership outfit Aberdeen have won the race to sign the 21-year-old after agreeing a fee with the Merseysiders.

The Reds confirmed (15 June) that Clarkson has completed a permanent move to the Dons having been with Liverpool since the age of nine.

Premiership duo Rangers and Celtic had also been keeping tabs on the midfielder, as revealed by Football Insider last month (2 May).

But after spending last season on loan at Pittodrie, Clarkson has now completed the permanent switch.

Hutton suggested Clarkson could still get his big move to one of the Scottish giants.

This is no sleight on him but obviously Liverpool did not see him breaking into the first team,” he told Football Insider.

I think when Rangers, Celtic or whoever lose their top talent it is because they are a top talent, they are young players with massive potential.

Liverpool

I think he had a really good season at Aberdeen so I understand the move. He is still young, still got plenty of football.

If Rangers and Celtic and teams like that are still looking at him and he goes and has a good season then you never know what can happen.

In other news, Liverpool are on course for game-changing Anfield development.
