In August, the Yorkshire Evening Post reported that Leeds had appointed former defender Andrew Taylor as loan manager.

The former Sunderland man is tasked with overseeing the development of youngsters, as well as finding them the best possible opportunities.

That includes Polish midfielder Bogusz, 20, who curled home wonderfully last week (September 25th) to seal his third Ibiza goal in six games.

Whelan insisted such loan spells would help equip players to perform under the Whites’ demanding boss Marcelo Bielsa.

“That’s why these boys go out on loan – to impress,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“When they’ve outgrown the under-23’s, but they’re not quite ready for the first team. This is the next part of your journey.

“Playing competitive football week in, week out gives these youngsters a chance to show the right attitude and equip them fully.

“So when they come back to Leeds United after a successful loan spell, they’ve stood out in their performances.

“I think it’s great that the club are letting these young guys go out on loan.

“To show the manager that they can perform, having improved and gained valuable experience.”

Polish under-21 international Bogusz joined Leeds in 2019 and has made just three senior appearances for the Yorkshire side.

He also spent last season on loan, scoring once in a season-long spell at UD Logroñés.
