Pundit excited by 'massive' Rangers swoop to sign star 'similar to Gerrard'
Paddy Kenny has claimed Blackburn Rovers midfielder Joe Rothwell will find the opportunity to work under Steven Gerrard at Rangers too good to turn down.
The former Sheffield United keeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 26-year-old’s mooted switch could prove to be an “excellent move”.
As reported by Football League World on Tuesday (October 19th), Rangers are closing in on a pre-contract agreement with Rothwell ahead of an “almost certain” move next summer.
The report also claims Norwich and Bournemouth are among English clubs interested in the Blackburn Rovers midfielder.
Rothwell has appeared in all but one of the Ewood Park club’s Championship fixtures this term.
He has scored once and contributed four assists.

The midfielder is into the final year of his contract with the Lancashire club.
This means Rangers can offer him a pre-contract agreement in January.
Kenny insisted Rothwell will be eager to take an opportunity to work under one of the world’s most esteemed footballers.
“He will 100% be valuable for Rangers but I’m sure Blackburn won’t want to lose him,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“If Rangers are interested and he’s a similar mould of player to Gerrard then it could be an excellent move.
“He’s got the opportunity to go there and work under Gerrard and develop his career.
“It will be interesting to see if this one comes off. What midfielder wouldn’t want to go and work under Gerrard at a massive club like Rangers?”
Rothwell joined Blackburn in 2018 from League One side Oxford United.
The Manchester United academy product has netted nine goals in 132 games for the Rovers.
