Gabriel Agbonlahor has tipped Aston Villa right-back Frédéric Guilbert to he handed his first Premier League start of the season against Burnley on Thursday night.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer claimed the Frenchman has been “unfortunate” to not feature in the Premier League this term.
Dean Smith will be without first-choice right-back Matty Cash after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against Wolves on Saturday.
Guilbert has been limited to just two Carabao Cup appearances this season and the trip to Molineux was the first time he made a Premier League matchday squad this term.
Douglas Luiz was sent off against Wolves after being shown two yellow cards meaning Smith will be forced into at least two changes against Burnley.
And Agbonlahor has claimed Conor Hourihane and Guilbert are in a prime position to benefit from the suspensions.
He told Football Insider: “It’ll give a chance for Guilbert to come in who has been unfortunate not to play this season. He can show what he can do.
“Conor Hourihane can come back into the side too.
“Sometimes suspensions and injuries give other players a chance and opportunity to show what they can do.
“The players who come in will be trying to have a big impact on the game.
“Hourihane, hopefully, he starts because he’s been really unlucky not to play and he can put in a good performance.”
Guilbert played 25 times in the Premier League last season and shared the right-back role with the long-serving Ahmed Elmohamady.
However, the pair have found their opportunities limited this season with summer signing Cash one of nine players who have started every Villa Premier League game this season.
