Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Everton midfielder Tom Davies for his high-energy style of play.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds United goalkeeper admitted that he is a big fan of the 22-year-old, focussing in particular on his impressive work ethic.
The Toffees academy graduate has been linked with a £12 million summer bid from Newcastle United in recent days.
But while Robinson has given his backing to Davies, he has also suggested that the youngster’s future at Goodison Park could rest largely on how heavily Carlo Ancelotti chooses to invest in his squad this summer.
Speaking to Football Insider, the former England international said: “I thought he [Davies] did well last season, especially at the end of last season. I thought he was one of the better players in a team that was struggling.
“I like him, I think he’s a really good player. He’s a good energetic midfield player, and I think he brings something different to the team.
“Will he stay? I think his future will all depend on Ancelotti’s spending, what type of money he’s got and what type of players he’s going to bring in. We’ll have to see whether he’s in his plans or not. Ancelotti has given his players an opportunity. He didn’t spend in the last transfer window, he didn’t bring any players in, he’s had six months to look at his squad and assess.
“If they have the funds, I suspect that Everton will be one of the busiest sides in the transfer window this summer.”
Davies made 30 Premier League appearances for Everton last season, with 23 league starts.
His only goal of the top flight season came in the 2-1 away victory over Southampton in November.
