Pundit Exclusive: Lennon told to make radical Celtic change to stem Lennoxtown leak

Alan Hutton has suggested that Neil Lennon may have to adapt his training methods after the Celtic team news was leaked ahead of Saturday’s defeat to Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Gers and Scotland defender admits the breach of trust is “only harming the team” and claims that the Hoops’ boss might have to start revealing his selection on the day of the match.

As quoted by the Scottish Sun, Lennon revealed his anger after the Bhoys’ starting line-up was leaked in the build-up to Saturday’s game.

Rangers defender Connor Goldson netted twice as Celtic lost the derby clash 2-0 at Parkhead.

Hutton admits that Lennon has limited options regarding the team leak and suggests he may have to stop revealing his side until in the dressing room if he cannot trust his players and staff.

“These sort of things are only harming your team, you need to keep it in house,” Hutton told Football Insider.

Everything that’s said within the club, within those walls, you keep it in house. Don’t tell anybody everything, don’t give them any opportunity to shoot you down.

“You need to trust, trust is right up there. He needs to trust his players and coaching staff and everyone within the building. It’s the only thing you can do – or you leave it.

“I know a lot of managers that don’t tell the team until you’re in the changing room – that’s your only two options. You trust everybody and you work to a game plan through the week or you don’t tell them the team and you tell them on the day.

“If he thinks it’s that much of an issue, that’s what I’d be doing. I’ve worked with managers that play the shape through training on the Friday, it’ll be mixed – it’ll be the shape you’re playing, the way that you’re playing, everybody does the same thing, nobody knows who’s playing and then you get to the ground and he names the team.

“If it’s that bad, that’s probably the only other option he can do.”

In other Celtic news, Frank McAvennie has been left fuming at a major player development involving current and former Hoops stars.
