Pundit Exclusive: Spurs big name in line for Mourinho roasting if he doesn't shape up
Darren Bent has claimed Tottenham Gareth Bale needs to start performing soon or Jose Mourinho will stop selecting him.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Tottenham forward said Mourinho has a “short fuse” and will not play the Welshman if he is not contributing enough.
Bale has contributed just one assist in three Tottenham games this season and has only been on the winning side once since his return.
The 31-year-old re-joined Spurs in September on a season-long loan deal from Spanish giants Real Madrid.
He was suffering from a knee injury on his arrival and therefore only made his second debut earlier this month.
Asked by Football Insider when he thinks Bale could be back to his best, Bent said: “It’s a matter of time basically.

“It depends on how long Mourinho wants to give him.
“If he can give him 10 or 15 games to get up to speed then, of course, he’ll do that.
“I think we’re going to come to a point that if Gareth Bale is not delivering the goods then we know what Mourinho is like, he’s got a short fuse.
“He can keep letting him play and play and play but if he’s not at the level that he wants him to be at eventually Mourinho will go ‘enough is enough, he’s obviously still way off it, I need to think about winning games.’”
Before his arrival in north London, Bale had started just five games in 2020 and played the full 90 minutes just once.
Since the beginning of last season, the Cardiff-born ace has started just 16 club games for Madrid and Spurs.
