Celtic will only get better after they beat Rangers with several key players missing.

That’s according to former Hoops hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after this week’s Old Firm clash.

Celtic went top of the table as they beat Rangers 3-0 at Parkhead on Wednesday (2 February).

Impressively, the Hoops had several key players missing with Callum McGregor playing the game with a fractured cheekbone.

With several high-profile stars set to return to the side over the next few weeks, McAvennie has warned Rangers that Celtic will get even better as they look to regain the Premiership title.

“The big thing for me is Celtic are going to get even better,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“We haven’t fielded our strongest team for ages now. Think about how many Kyogo would have had if he had started against Rangers.

“Tom Rogic wasn’t there, Jullien wasn’t there. Maeda wasn’t quite fit enough even though he played.

“Bitton was suspended and Turnbull and Ideguchi were injured. That’s some depth we have now.

“Imagine when everyone is fit. There is no reason to think Celtic won’t get even better than what we saw the other night.

“That’s the big thing no one is talking about because, for me, I can’t see Rangers improving like that.”

New league leaders Celtic are next in action against Motherwell on Sunday (6 February).

Rangers face Hearts at Ibrox on the same day as they look to return to wining ways in the Premiership.
