Pundit explains ‘biggest challenge’ for Van Bronckhorst at Rangers after Roofe’s Instagram reveal

Kemar Roofe’s fresh injury setback will be “frustrating” for Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 28-year-old’s injury problems have been “the biggest challenge” for all of his managers.

Roofe took to Instagram last Tuesday (14 December) to inform fans he had suffered an injury “setback”, and promised to continue “fighting to come back a better version of myself”.

Rangers

As per Transfermarkt, the Jamaican missed 14 Rangers matches with muscle injuries last season.

Whelan suggested the form of Gers star Alfredo Morelos will soften the blow of Roofe’s injury.

“It’s just the way he plays. He’s very direct and plays with a lot of pace,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“It happens quite often for him, picking up these little niggles. Keeping him fit has been the biggest challenge for any manager.

“It will be frustrating for both player and manager, the number of small injuries he suffers. It will really break up momentum in his game.

“I think it’s not perfect right now for Van Bronckhorst, but he’s got a player in Morelos who is bang in form and it will have been hard for Roofe to get in ahead of him anyway.”

Rangers

The former Leeds striker has scored 28 goals in 56 games since joining Rangers in August of last year.

Roofe has netted 10 goals this term, while Morelos has scored 12 in this campaign.
