Pundit fears Everton set for ‘massive’ financial blow after source’s Frank Lampard update

Everton may struggle to find a suitable replacement for Frank Lampard if he loses his job in the near future.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Lampard’s future.

Sources told this site on Thursday (5 January), that the Toffees are expected to sack the 44-year-old ahead of their next Premier League clash against Southampton.

Man United

The former Chelsea man will remain in charge for their FA Cup tie against Man United on Friday (6 January) and it is becoming increasingly likely that it will be his last match in charge.

Lampard is on the brink following a run of eight defeats in 11 matches topped off by a 4-1 hammering by Brighton on Tuesday (3 January).

“He is under serious pressure,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“I just look at the finances. Everton are a big club building this massive new stadium. It must be costing them so much money.

“They simply can’t afford to get relegated, it would be a massive, massive blow. Whether Lampard stays or goes, their next two league games are Southampton at home and West Ham away.

“Those are massive games now. Do you sack your manager going into those games or do you bring a new guy in and hope for a bounce?

“It’s a tricky one for Everton. As soon as you go into the bottom three the owners start to panic, with everything going on, Everton simply can’t afford to become a Championship club.

“These next games are huge, that has to be four to six points from those games. If he stays and he wins them then he should keep his job but if he loses either then he’s gone.

“You just worry about who will replace him because they are such a mess.

It’s a big club but they are all over the place, who wants that job?”
