Pundit fears for Liverpool after Uefa announcement – ‘it is a worry’
Kevin Campbell has claimed Liverpool have paid the price for a poor display in Napoli after drawing Real Madrid in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Arsenal striker suggested Jurgen Klopp’s side will be concerned by the prospect of Vinicius Junior lining up against Trent Alexander-Arnold.
On Monday (7 November), Uefa confirmed the Reds would take on Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League.
The glamour tie is a repeat of the 2021-2022 Champions League final, which finished 1-0 to Los Blancos.
Under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool have only been knocked out of Europe’s elite competition by teams from Madrid.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the draw, Campbell said: “Liverpool could have done with avoiding them, of course.
“Unfortunately, when you do not qualify top of your group you can draw the top teams in the last 16. Beggars cannot be choosers.
“The good news is, Liverpool will play them after the World Cup. It gives Jurgen Klopp time to get things right.
“I can tell you this much, Real Madrid would not want to play Liverpool.
“Real Madrid bring a lot to the table. Vinicius is playing out of his skin so he will be one they have to account for. That will be a worry.
“The game is quite a long time away though. A lot can change by the time we get to the game.”
In other news, a pundit has claimed Trent Alexander-Arnold is ‘very lucky’ to escape punishment as controversial Liverpool pictures emerge.
