Pundit fears for Patrick Bamford after ‘absolute nightmare’ Leeds United news confirmed

Alan Hutton has admitted Tyler Roberts’ serious injury blow is an “absolute nightmare” for Leeds United.

The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Whites needed the 23-year-old to help manage Patrick Bamford’s own return from injury.

As confirmed by Leeds on Monday evening (7 March), Roberts has undergone surgery on a ruptured hamstring tendon and will be out for three months.

The versatile attacker suffered the injury after coming on as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Leicester City.

With Bamford only just back from his own long-term absence, Hutton admitted Roberts’ blow is a major blow for Leeds.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It’s an absolute nightmare. The worst bit was when I saw him run back on the pitch because they’d used all the subs. That was a real worry.

“Bamford comes back in but he’s not up to speed. He’s not ready yet. Then one of your other forward-thinking players picks up a serious injury and is out for the season.

“It’s not ideal, especially with everything they’re going through. With Bamford, you’re going to have to put him in and manage his minutes.

“You need other people round about him. It’s an area where they have struggled. They’ve tried different things up top and it’s just yet another blow.

“We know the injury crisis Leeds have had over the last couple of seasons. It just seems to keep happening week after week.”

Roberts has played 23 times in the Premier League for Leeds this season.

He has scored just once and contributed one assist.
