Pundit fears West Ham will miss out on European football next season after referee confession

Paddy Kenny claims recent refereeing mistakes may have cost West Ham a place in European competition next season.

The former Leeds United stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider,
slammed Premier League referees after their recent mistakes in Hammers games.

Last Tuesday (21 December), Evening Standard reporter Jack Rosser reported West Ham have had clarification from the Premier League referees over recent decisions.

Moyes was reportedly told Vladimir Coufal shouldn’t have been sent off against Arsenal (15 December) and that they should have been awarded a penalty at Burnley (12 December).

The Hammers won neither of these games as their impressive start to the season stalled.

Kenny claims the dropped points could cost Moyes’ side at the end of the season.

“It’s all well and good saying that now,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“That’s potentially two wins they have missed out on there. That could stop them from getting into Europe next season.

“It’s an absolute joke all of this. I would have a bit of respect for the refs if they came out and stood by their decisions.

“Having said that, some of the calls in recent weeks have been indefensible.

“Moyes has been moaning about referees for years and it looks like he has a point.

“He has every right to be angry, as does every West Ham fan. It’s not good enough.”
