Frank McAvennie has hailed reported Liverpool target Aaron Ramsey as an “amazing” player as Georginio Wijnaldum closes in on a move to Barcelona.
The former West Ham and Celtic striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, questioned why the Serie A giants would let Ramsey, 30, leave this summer.
According to CalcioMercato, Ramsey is considering interest from both Liverpool and West Ham ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Wales international left Arsenal for Juventus in July 2019 and has contributed six goals and six assists in 61 appearances for Andrea Pirlo’s side.
He has suffered a number of niggling injuries since the move, and is currently sidelined with a thigh problem.
When asked by Football Insider if Ramsey would be a smart signing for Jurgen Klopp’s side, McAvenne said: “Ramsey is an amazing player.
“Why would they let him go? I cannot understand why they would. He has done well at Juventus from what I’ve heard. I am sure Pirlo would like to keep Ramsey.
“The only thing could be if he wants to come home. Maybe he is fed up of being locked down in a country where he doesn’t know the language.”
The Reds are expected to enter the transfer market for a centre-midfielder this summer with Georginio Wijnaldum nearing an exit from Anfield.
