Pundit hails Bissouma as 'big' Liverpool last-gasp signing after newspaper update

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will only sanction a move for Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma if he is “100 per cent sure” he fits into his system.

That is the view of former Premier League striker Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the possibility of the 25-year-old heading to Anfield before the transfer window shuts.

According to the Express‘s Tony Banks (August 28th), Liverpool made an initial enquiry for the Brighton midfielder last week.

Football Insider revealed later that day that the Seagulls are considering a move for Lille midfielder Cheikh Niasse amid fears Bissouma will leave.

Speaking on Sky Sports (April 13th), Anfield legend Jamie Carragher called the Mali international a “top-quality player”.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Bissouma future, Whelan said:

“It’d be a big signing on paper but midfield is an area where Liverpool have plenty of options. Where would Bissouma fit into that side? There is a number of talented midfield players at Liverpool.

“But, when you look at the likes of Chelsea and Man City you can see why they might be targeting a player like Bissouma because those clubs have an abundance of talent in every position. You can rotate your side to keep players happy.

“I don’t think Jurgen Klopp would go out and splash the cash on him unless he was sure that he was the right player. Liverpool are not going to spend money for the sake of it.

“Style of play is so important to Jurgen Klopp so he would only sign him if he is 100 per cent sure can fit into his system.”
