Pundit hails 'brilliant' James and Leeds teammate after 'massive' Bielsa reveal

Noel Whelan has claimed it was “brilliant” to see Leeds United wingers Jack Harrison and Dan James combine to score against Tottenham.

The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, praised the duo for “shouldering the responsibility” of providing an attacking threat in the absence of Rodrigo and Raphinha.

Speaking after the game and quoted by Leeds Live, Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa expressed his hopes that James and Harrison can find consistency in their performances and output.

Before Sunday’s game, the pair had registered just one assist between them in the Premier League this term.

The goal was not enough to secure victory for Leeds United, who sit 17th in the table after losing 2-1 in north London.

Whelan insisted there is “more to come” from the duo, who both signed permanently for the Whites during the summer window.

“It was massive to see them contribute in a game like that because I don’t think we’ve seen the best of them this season,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“It was a match where we really needed someone to step up and shoulder the responsibility with Rodrigo and Raphinha out through injury.

“It was brilliant to see them combine. It was fantastic footwork and skill from Harrison, and then it was great to see James getting into the right areas and wanting to score.

“There’s more to come, we need a bit more consistency but for James to get his first Leeds goal will give him massive confidence.”

Harrison notched eight goals and eight assists in 36 league games last term.

Raphinha leads the scoring charts for Leeds United this season, scoring five goals in 10 games.
