Pundit has 'heard whispers' about Leeds star Wilfried Gnonto after big news
Wilfried Gnonto wanting to leave Leeds United has caused a “circus” at Elland Road.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Scotland and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton praised the Italian’s ability despite admitting he can be “rough around the edges”.
As revealed by Football Insider (8 November), the 20-year-old is unhappy with his situation at Elland Road ahead of January.
Football Insider also revealed (8 November) that the Whites would be willing to accept the “right” offer for Gnonto this January after rejecting a £25.7million offer from Everton this summer.
Gnonto has started just one of Leeds’ four league games – the 1-0 defeat to Stoke City – and has managed just one goal from 10 appearances in all competitions.
Hutton believes Gnonto’s indecisiveness is at the determent of Leeds’ promotion efforts.
“It’s difficult to tell ultimately,” he told Football Insider.
“Gnonto is a real good player and he gives you something different with his power and pace.
“He can score goals. Yes, he can be a little bit rough around the edges at times and there’s room for improvement – that’s the case with everybody.
“When you’re not playing, or if he doesn’t see his future there, you start to hear these whispers, and that’s what I’m hearing.
“It’s not nice, it starts to become a circus and it’s not the first time I’ve heard it. It’s not useful for a club who are trying to go for promotion themselves but we have to wait and see.
“There’s a lot of football between now and January so depending on how that goes, it may change.”
