Pundit hits back at Neville over Ronaldo claim as Man United verbal war heats up
Kevin Campbell has suggested Man United are being “carried” by the “ruthless” Cristiano Ronaldo at present.
The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed there is “no hiding place” for sub-par Red Devils players when on the pitch with the 36-year-old.
Speaking on Sky Sports (27 December), former Man United defender Gary Neville slammed Ronaldo’s on-field “whinging” and negative body language after a 1-1 draw against Newcastle this week.
The Portugal icon bounced back from the criticism to grab a goal and an assist as the Red Devils recorded a 3-1 win over Burnley on Thursday.
Campbell took a dig at Neville and insisted he should be directing his ire at his Man United teammates.
“Ronaldo is a player who has seen it, done it, and got the t-shirt,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“If players aren’t doing things right, he will tell them. There’s no hiding place when you’re out there on that pitch with arguably one of the greatest players ever.
“It’s all very well saying that he has to help the youngsters and put his arm around them, but when you’re on the pitch you need to have that ruthless streak.
“Neville is being a little bit harsh on him. Ronaldo is the one who is carrying Man United right now. The rest aren’t up to standard.
“We saw him keep Solskjaer in a job for an extra two months, let’s be honest. It’s a bit rich to all of a sudden say he’s not pulling his weight at the club.”

Ronaldo has scored 14 goals in 21 games since his return.
United sit sixth in the Premier League.
