Pundit in awe of Frank Lampard as ‘big’ Everton ‘power move’ confirmed
The sale of ex-Everton midfielder Allan was a “power move” from Frank Lampard.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Toffees’ latest departure.
Allan, 31, joined Abu Dhabi side Al Wahda on 27 September after being frozen out of Lampard’s plans.
He was a key member of the team last season, with 25 Premier League starts among his 31 appearances in all competitions.
But Allan has yet to figure in the Premier League so far this season and was left out of the matchday squad for last weekend’s win over West Ham.
“It’s a big move from Lampard more than anyone else,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He doesn’t want Allan around and this is a big-money signing who came with a bit of a reputation. He has been a regular for two years.
“Now, all of a sudden, he’s not here anymore and he has presumably made Everton a little bit of money as well and we know how they need that.
“It’s Lampard stamping his authority. Maybe he thought he had no choice but to use him last season because they had very few options.
“Now, he has a bit of his own squad and we are starting to see his way of playing. It’s a power move and hopefully Everton will now be better off.”

Allan’s departure comes following a shake-up of the midfield with Amadou Onana, Idrissa Gueye, and Alex Iwodi, who has been moved inside from his old winger role, regularly starting in the Premier League.
The Toffees are next in action against Southampton on Saturday (1 October).
