Pundit issues 'big' Harry Maguire prediction as Man United teammate may be 'out for a lot of weeks'
Alan Hutton has insisted it is a “big time” for Harry Maguire at Man United after Raphael Varane’s injury.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa right-back said Maguire now needs to “stand up and be counted”.
Varane was forced off in the first half of the 6-3 defeat to Man City on Sunday (2 October).
Maguire was missing from the Manchester derby after picking up an injury on international duty with England during the recent break.
Hutton insisted that if Maguire is able to return then he needs to prove himself to Erik ten Hag.
“It is a big time,” he told Football Insider.

“He is going to have to stand up and be counted now because it has been difficult. I think a lot of it has not been fair.
“Yes, he has not played at the level we know he can, but I think a lot of people are jumping on the bandwagon. It must be a difficult time for him to deal with.
“The Varane injury looked like a sore one so he could be out for a lot of weeks. Somebody is going to have to fill that void, whether it be [Victor] Lindelof or Maguire. So it is a big opportunity for him.
“If he can just get back in and get the confidence back because we all know that he is a good player.“
Maguire has started just two Premier League games for United so far this season.
He has made five appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils.
