Pundit issues ‘big’ Ivan Perisic claim after £150m Tottenham reveal
Noel Whelan has insisted Ivan Perisic’s experience will be vital for Tottenham in the Champions League.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England Under-21s striker claimed the deal for Perisic is a clear indication Daniel Levy is fully backing Antonio Conte in the transfer window.
Spurs confirmed earlier this week (31 May) that the 33-year-old had signed a two-year deal with and will officially join at the beginning of July when his Inter Milan contract expires.
The Telegraph reported the same day that Perisic will earn £180,000-a-week at his new club with the deal worth at least £18.7million over the course of the contract.
“He’s a free transfer,” Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Ewan Kingsbury.
“He’s going into the market for someone he trusts, someone he’s worked with and he’s a big name as well.
“He knows European football and they are in the Champions League, I think it’s a really wise move from Conte.
“Yes, he’s getting what he wants but he’s getting what he wants because they were his demands when he came into Tottenham. He got them Champions League football as well so he’s got extra money to spend, there was the £150million as well.

“He’s not paying out any fee for this player, it’s just pure wages. I think it’s good business, bringing in experience that you’re going to need in Europe next season. It’s a player that’s been there, seen it and done it.
“Conte is now showing he’s putting his stamp on the team with three players from Italy that have come in now.”
In other news, Tottenham have been offered a West Ham star who starts every match.
