Pundit issues ’embarrassing’ Man City verdict after Kevin De Bruyne reveal
Frank McAvennie has claimed the number of good players at Man City is “embarrassing”.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said every member of the City squad could wear the captain’s armband.
As reported by The Telegraph (14 August), Kevin De Bruyne, 31, has been “promoted” to Man City’s vice captain.
It comes after Ilkay Gundogan was named club captain after Fernandinho’s return to Brazilian side Atletico Paranaense upon the expiration of his contract at the Etihad.
De Bruyne was in the starting XI for City’s game against Bournemouth on Saturday (13 August).
The Belgium international scored and provided an assist as his side won 4-0.
When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to De Bruyne being promoted to the new role, McAvennie said: “Every one of the players could be captain.
“I think, on the pitch, every one of them will be captain. It’s just somebody wears and armband and tosses a coin, that’s about it. That’s all you need the captain for.

“When you’ve got a team like Man City, it’s very rare you get that. In the Man City team any one of them could wear the armband.
“De Bruyne is so laid back, giving him the vice captaincy will be good for him. It’s embarrassing the amount of good players they have, almost all of them could wear the armband.“
In other news, a pundit has claimed Jack Grealish set for extended spell out of Man City XI amid ‘massive’ claim.
