Pundit issues emphatic Alisson Becker verdict as Liverpool look to sign new goalkeeper

Frank McAvennie has claimed signing another goalkeeper is “way down the list” for Liverpool.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker insisted Alisson Becker is “the best keeper in the world” and the Reds are better spending their money elsewhere.

According to journalist James Pearce, as relayed by Anfield Watch (24 February), the Reds may look to bring in another shot-stopper in the summer when Adrian will be out of contract.

The Merseysiders are also expected second choice keeper Caoimhin Kelleher to attract interest and feel they may need to sign another stopper as back-up.

Alisson’s current contract runs until 2027 and is the firm first choice at Anfield.

The Merseyside club is set to undergo the biggest changes to the squad since the start of the Jurgen Klopp era at the end of the season.

On 24 February, sources told Football Insider that the Reds are eyeing up three midfielder signings as they look to overhaul their squad this summer.

McAvennie insisted money would be better spent on improving other areas of the pitch than adding a goalkeeper.

I think it is way down the list,” he told Football Insider.

Alisson has made a couple of mistakes, we heard the same about [David] De Gea and look at him now.

Alisson is one of the best keepers in the world. How are you going to replace that? Yes he is going to make mistakes, everyone does but on his day he is still the best keeper in the world.

You are not going to replace that, why would you want to replace that? Why spend a lot of money when you need it somewhere else?

I do not think Jurgen will be worrying about a goalkeeper, I think that will be the least of his worries.
