Pundit issues emphatic Allan Saint-Maximin claim after Newcastle behind-the-scenes news

Newcastle United may be able to ease Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson’s poor injury records with a new member of staff, according to Kevin Campbell.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Arsenal and Everton striker insisted it is vital Newcastle do something to address their persistent injuries.

Eddie Howe was without Wilson, Saint-Maximin and Bruno Guimaraes for the 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on Saturday (3 September) while Jonjo Shelvey is a long-term absentee.

Chronicle Live reported earlier this week (6 September) that the club want a new addition to the medical team who has “significant experience in elite professional sport in a soft tissue or medical role”.

“If the problems keep happening then maybe it’s something that you actually have to look at and try to address,” Campbell told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs.

“If you just leave it and it keeps happening then you can question the club and question ‘Why aren’t you actually looking into it?’

“It’s good to know they are looking into it and are looking to try something different to alleviate the injuries.

“Wilson and Saint-Maximin are huge players for Newcastle, they are big players for Newcastle. These are players that make a real difference to Newcastle’s team and can effect results.

“The more you can keep them fit and out on the pitch the better.”

Wilson has never managed to play more than half of Newcastle’s Premier League games in a season since his move from Bournemouth in the summer of 2020.

Saint-Maximin has not featured in the club’s last two games.
