Pundit issues 'exciting signing' verdict after Moshiri claim at Everton
Noel Whelan has claimed Rafael Benitez is an “exciting signing” for Everton despite his history at Liverpool.
The former Premier League striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, urged fans to forget about the Spaniard’s spell at Anfield and look at his impressive record as a manager.
Speaking to talkSPORT (July 1st), owner Farhad Moshiri claimed Benitez only has a “very distant connection” to Liverpool after his exit in 2010.
The Spanish boss spent six years on the red half of Merseyside and angered Everton fans by calling the Toffees a “small club” in 2007.
Benitez’s appointment has been met with protests from certain sections of the Goodison fanbase.
However, Whelan insisted the former Newcastle boss is the “man for the job”.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think he’s the right manager for that club, Rafa Benitez. I think he’s fantastic.
“I don’t really care whether or not whether he’s been at Liverpool are not.
“It’s going to have certain varying effects on that but I think when you look at the bigger picture of it all, it’s a very exciting signing.
“Everton fans have got to look past the fact he managed Liverpool. It doesn’t matter, players move on, managers move on. It’s what they’ve done in their past and he’s a winner.
“It doesn’t matter where he’s been, if he’s the man for the job, he’s the man for the job. It’s his credentials and that’s all that matters.”
Benitez had been out of work since leaving Dalian Professional in January.
He has also managed the likes of Real Madrid, Napoli, Chelsea and Inter Milan.
