Pundit issues ‘frightening’ new claim as Everton work on deal for Anthony Gordon ally
Noel Whelan has backed Everton to sign Anthony Elanga on loan in January as they look to avoid another relegation battle.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the prospect of lining the 20-year-old up alongside Anthony Gordon is “frightening” for Premier League defences.
According to the Daily Mail (27 December), Everton are chasing a January loan deal for Elanga – with a number of other top-flight sides asking about his availability.
It is claimed that the forward is growing frustrated at his lack of opportunities under new Old Trafford boss Erik ten Hag.
The winger has been limited mostly to substitute appearances for Man United this season after scoring three goals in all competitions last season.
Everton sit just a point above the Premier League drop zone and have lacked potency in front of goal after injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and the exit of Richarlison.
The Toffees have already moved to bring Ellis Simms back from his loan at Sunderland.
When asked if Elanga would help Everton turn their season around, Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Absolutely.
“If you’re lining up with Elanga on one side and Gordon on the other – that’s frightening.
“It’s full of pace and creativity, directness and goals.

“He’s not quite started hitting the goals just yet, but we’ve definitely seen enough from him to know that he’s going to be a very dangerous player in the future.
“He’s one that can help them in this battle, that’s for sure. There wouldn’t be too many teams who could match that pace if they lined up with Gordon and Elanga.”
