Pundit issues Harry Kane warning after new ban controversy at Tottenham

Noel Whelan has claimed Tottenham star Harry Kane will be “mindful” of picking up a caution against Liverpool on Sunday (6 November) with a potential one-match ban on the cards.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted the 29-year-old won’t have to “change his game too much” as he isn’t a “dirty player”.

Kane has racked up four yellow cards so far this season, meaning he is just one caution away from triggering an automatic one-match ban.

A suspension for Spurs’ top scorer would pose a huge problem for Antonio Conte, who already has to contend with injuries to Heung-min Son, Dejan Kulusevski, and Richarlison.

Kane, who has reportedly put contract renewal talks on hold until after the World Cup, has notched 11 goals and three assists in 19 games this term.

Whelan insisted losing Kane would “really hinder” Spurs in their clash with Leeds United next week (12 November).

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “In the back of his mind, he’ll be wary of what he’s doing with the challenges.

“He’s not a particularly dirty player, so no one will want him to change the way that he plays.

“But he’ll be mindful that he’s got to be very careful. There’s no doubt that Spurs won’t want to lose another striker – especially someone with his character and leadership qualities.

“Losing him would really hinder them.

“In the back of his mind, he’ll be very careful of avoiding that fifth yellow – but I don’t think he’ll change his game too much.”
