Pundit issues Leeds claim as Tottenham set sights on signing Alex Scott
Noel Whelan has urged Tottenham to “be patient” if they complete a deal for Bristol City sensation Alex Scott.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, drew parallels between Scott, 18, and on-loan Spurs midfielder Jack Clarke.
According to London World (25 February), Tottenham are monitoring Bristol City midfield talent Scott having sent senior scout Peter Braund to Ashton Gate recently to make a check on the starlet.
Football Insider revealed last month (7 February) that Everton and Leicester City are among a number of Premier League clubs tracking the Guernsey-born midfielder.
Whelan suggested the youngster could struggle to make the step up to the Premier League – just as with £8.5million signing Clarke, who is on loan with League One Sunderland.
“I think it’s difficult because it’s a big step to come from the Championship to the Premier League,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“You never really know whether the player can adapt or whether they’re good enough for the league.
“I think we saw that with Jack Clarke. He had a good spell with Leeds but really struggled to make that step up – it’s a big difference when you’re coming up against the top class of players.
“But on the other hand, you look at David Moyes and he’s got it spot on with players coming up from the Championship – I don’t think any other manager has done it better.

“If Scott comes into Tottenham, there’s going to be a lot of pressure on his shoulders to produce when he comes into the team.
“It’s a massive risk doing these sorts of deals but the one thing I would urge Spurs to be is patient. It takes time to adapt.”
