Pundit issues ‘massive’ Calvin Ramsay verdict after Jurgen Klopp development at Liverpool

Calvin Ramsay must bide his time at Liverpool after failing to make an impact on the first team.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the teenager’s development.

Ramsay, 19, was sent off for Liverpool under-21s against Tottenham on Monday (9 January) after he was adjudged to have tripped Spurs’ Romaine Mundle who appeared to be through on goal.

As relayed by Anfield Watch Academy (8 January), first-team boss Klopp was watching on for the game.

The defender has only made two senior appearances for the Reds since his summer move from Aberdeen, starting in League Cup against Derby and making a three-minute cameo at home against Napoli in the Champions League.

“So he’s made a couple of appearances, he’s still learning his trade down there,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“He has been playing some reserve football but that is the price you have to pay. You are coming to a massive club in Liverpool.

“They have Trent and he is the number one. It’s about being patient. It’s obviously not great for him to be playing first-team football at Aberdeen then to go to reserve football but that’s where he is at the moment.

“He has to wait for his chance and then take that chance when it comes, it’s that simple. He has loads of time there and it will take time.

“I wouldn’t be too concerned. If he isn’t making any inroads in a year or so then maybe you should be concerned.

“On the red card, it’s part of the game. It’s a mistake.

Whether Klopp was there or not, he would have heard about it so it doesn’t matter.

“These things happen and I don’t think it will have affected Klopp’s thinking.”
