Pundit issues ‘massive’ Elliot Anderson claim after Newcastle United ‘new signing’ development

Elliot Anderson is like a “new signing” for Newcastle United.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ promising young star.

Anderson, 19, was given a place on the bench for Newcastle’s Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest though he did not make it onto the pitch.

This came after an impressive pre-season in which he has played himself into Eddie Howe’s plans.

As quoted by the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder (5 August), Howe has admitted Anderson will be staying at St James Park rather than heading out on loan.

Kenny insists Anderson will be like a new signing for Newcastle.

“He will be like a new signing as well, he isn’t costing anything,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He had a really good time and promotion last year with Bristol Rovers and scored quite a few goals for them.

“I think he ended up getting something like one goal in every three games from midfield so it shows he is a big talent.

“It’s a massive confidence boost, to be told he won’t be going out on loan and that he will be staying to try and put some pressure on and getting into that first team.

“He’s a geordie as well so that’s even better. The fans will take to him.”

Anderson joined Bristol Rovers on loan in January and went on to score eight goals and register five assists in 21 appearances.

He also scored the all-important seventh goal in a 7-0 win over Scunthorpe on 7 May, sealing the Gas’ promotion to League One.
