Pundit issues 'massive' Leeds claim after Aaronson bid update - pundit

Leeds United must resolve their lack of squad depth this month if they are to “kick on” in the Premier League, according to Alan Hutton.

The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Whites’ lack of transfer activity is “definitely a concern”.

Leeds United are yet to make a senior signing in the winter window despite a recent spate of injuries and unavailability issues.

A Leeds United source told Football Insider on Thursday (20 January) that the club have tabled an improved bid for RB Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson.

The latest update on Friday is the Whites have upped the offer to £20m and are hopeful of agreeing a deal.

Hutton suggested Leeds United could be sucked into the relegation battle this season despite their recent form.

Discussing Leeds’ lack of signings, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It’s definitely a concern, 100%.

“Marcelo Bielsa may be looking at it and thinking that Leeds will be ok when these injured players come back. But at this moment in time, they need reinforcements.

“They’re only eight points away from that relegation battle, even if they are off the back of a very good win.

“When Kalvin Phillips doesn’t play or Patrick Bamford doesn’t play – there’s no one ready to come in. That’s a massive issue, and one they need to resolve if they want to kick on.”

Patrick Bamford, Liam Cooper and Kalvin Phillips are among the big names currently on the treatment table at Elland Road.

Bielsa’s side sit 15th in the Premier League ahead of a crunch clash against 19th-place Newcastle today (22 January).

The transfer window slams shut at 23:00 on 31 January.

In other news, pundit insists Leeds United have been dealt a ‘massive’ blow after Bielsa’s injury update.
