Pundit issues ‘massive’ Liverpool claim that lifts them above Man City and Chelsea in title race
Paddy Kenny claims Liverpool have an edge in the title race after getting the rub of the green from officials in recent games.
The former Leeds United stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, hinted the Reds were lucky to beat Newcastle in midweek.
Liverpool cruised to a 3-1 win against Newcastle on Thursday (16 December) despite an early scare.
After Newcastle took the lead, Jota equalised with a controversial header as two Toon players were down injured.
Referee Mike Dean did not stop the game despite Isaac Hayden going down with a head injury.
Kenny claims these decisions are all going Liverpool’s way at the moment and they are giving the side an edge in the title race.
“Liverpool have a lot of things going for them,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“They have a brilliant squad with a lot of strength in depth now.
“But listen, it still took a wonder goal from Alexander-Arnold and a bit of dodgy refereeing to get past a poor Newcastle side.
“The referee could have easily ruled out that dodgy gol and taken Liverpool’s momentum away.
“The second goal was also a massive defensive error. As daft as it sounds, there were three big things that all went Liverpool’s way.
“They seem to be having the rub of the green when it comes to referee decisions.
“You need that when you challenge for a title. Combine that luck with how good Liverpool are and it’s just frightening.
“I can’t split Liverpool and Man City for the title.”

Liverpool sit one point behind league leaders Manchester City.
The sides drew 2-2 at Anfield when they faced off on 3 October.
In other news, Liverpool have been tipped to hijack a European giant’s talks to sign an 18-goal sensation loved by Jurgen Klopp.
