Pundit issues 'massive' Man United-Sancho claim after Rangnick comments revealed on Monday

Noel Whelan has insisted Ralf Rangnick must give Man United star Jadon Sancho a “run in the side” after a “strange” start to his Old Trafford career.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 21-year-old has proven he is a “fantastic player”.

Sancho followed up his first Champions League goal with Man United with his first Premier League goal on Sunday (28 November) to hand the Red Devils the lead away against Chelsea.

The former Dortmund youngster will be handed a clean slate under Rangnick, who was appointed manager at Old Trafford on Monday (29 November).

As quoted by Statman Dave on Twitter (29 November), Rangnick said the winger was “one of the best talents in Europe” in 2020 – showering praise on Sancho’s various attributes.

Whelan suggested the England international could reap the benefits of his new boss’ praise.

“It is massive for Man United and for Rangnick, he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“He will know a lot about him from Germany. Rangnick knows exactly why they went out and spent all that money on him.

“It was very strange to see him sitting on the bench and not being given a real opportunity. Especially when they’ve been hell-bent on bringing him into the club for two years.

“He’s proven what a fantastic player he is in recent games. Now he needs a run in that side. Rangnick has got to play him. He’s young, ready – and has to be starting matches for Man United.”

Man United face Arsenal tomorrow night (2 December) at Old Trafford.

They currently sit eighth in the table.
