Pundit issues ‘massive’ Nayef Aguerd claim as West Ham training footage emerges

Paul Robinson has insisted the imminent return of Nayef Aguerd will be a “massive boost” for injury-hit West Ham.

The former Tottenham and England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 26-year-old’s involvement could propel the Irons further up the Premier League after a “slow and sluggish start” to the season.

According to the London Evening Standard (22 October), Aguerd has “stepped up” his return from an ankle injury he picked up in pre-season.

The 25-cap Morocco international is in a race against time to be fit to play in next month’s World Cup for his country.

Aguerd, who is yet to make his competitive debut for West Ham since signing for a reported £30million in July, was featured in a training video posted to the Irons’ club media on Friday (21 October).

West Ham have also had to deal with injuries to fellow centre-backs Kurt Zouma, Craig Dawson, and Angelo Ogbonna in recent weeks.

Robinson told Football Insider: “He’s someone they spent a lot of money on for a reason – and they’ll want him to play.

“He was very unfortunate to get that injury straight away.

“They had a really slow, sluggish start but they’ve picked up and a player like that coming back into the reckoning will be a massive boost for them.

“It’s like having a new signing mid-season.”
