Pundit issues ‘massive’ Oleksandr Zinchenko claim as Arsenal reach £30m agreement

Noel Whelan has claimed Oleksandr Zinchenko’s arrival could be a “massive plus” for Arsenal this season after they agreed a £30million fee with Man City.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 25-year-old’s versatility makes that big-money fee a bargain.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano (16 July), Arsenal have reached a “verbal agreement in principle” with Man City for the signing of Zinchenko.

It is claimed that the Gunners will pay around £30million for the Ukraine international’s services if they can agree personal terms with the player.

Zinchenko has primarily played at left-back for Man City during his time at the club – but can also be utilised on the left wing and in central midfield.

Whelan suggested the 25-year-old’s Champions League experience will also prove valuable for Mikel Arteta’s side.

“He’s the kind of player they need,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“He is also someone who knows what playing in Europe is all about. He’s had plenty of experience of that with Man City.

“We know he can play in multiple positions, there’s options for Mikel Arteta. It makes that fee more acceptable because he can play in three positions rather than just one.

“He’s a very talented player, easy on the eye, links up well – very well suited to Arsenal.

“I think he’d be a massive plus for Arsenal if they can get him through the door this summer.”
