Pundit issues 'phenomenal' Liverpool claim after 'massive' Diogo Jota update
Diogo Jota will gain “heaps of confidence” from signing a new deal at Liverpool.
That’s according to former Aston Villa and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Portuguese international’s future.
On Tuesday (2 August) Liverpool announced Jota has signed a new contract at the club with terms than run until 2027.
The attacker scored 21 goals in 55 total appearances for the Reds during the 2021-22 season as his side won both domestic cups.
Jota may find more opportunities to start in the 2022-23 campaign following the departure of Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich.
McLeish insists this new deal with Jota the confidence he needs to thrive in the coming years.

“Super player, it’s great news for Liverpool,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.
“It’s also great news for Jota, that Liverpool have faith in him. We have seen him at his best but there was a wee bit of a tail-off last season.
“He wouldn’t play and you would wonder why he wasn’t playing or why he was being taken off. Players sometimes need that, they might have a bit of doubt about themselves and they may not feel quite right.
“But to be handed another five years is a massive reward for his work there and he is surely going to be free of any problems in terms of his confidence levels.
“It will give him heaps of confidence. I really do like him and he will continue to do well there.
“They have some phenomenal talent in the striking department.
“They are still going to cause problems next season.”
