Pundit issues 'ridiculous' Man United verdict after Lisandro Martinez news - 'I can't believe it'

Kevin Campbell has claimed there is “no chance” of Man United manager Erik ten Hag resting Lisandro Martinez before the World Cup.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Arsenal striker said “it’s ridiculous” for international managers to expect club managers to do them favours.

According to Doble Amarilla, via The Spurs Express (25 September), Argentina will ask their players not to play in the last set of matches before the World Cup.

Scaloni is said to want his players, one of which could be Lisandro Martinez, to be rested for fixtures between 11 and 13 of November.

The Red Devils are scheduled to travel to Fulham on 13 November.

When asked by Football Insider if Ten Hag would likely be receptive to the idea of resting Martinez prior to the World Cup, Campbell said: “No chance.

“Listen, national manager, the clubs are the ones who pay the players’ wages. He is their player. If they pick him to play he plays. It is simple.

“What happens if all international managers do that? It is ridiculous. That is never going to happen.

“I cannot believe that this is even a possibility. There is no chance of it happening.”

Martinez has established a strong partnership with Raphael Varane at the heart of United’s defence this season.

He has kept two clean sheets in his six appearances across all competitions.
