Pundit issues Sanchez ‘finished’ claim after ‘huge’ Conte move at Tottenham

Davinson Sanchez is not “finished” and will start for Tottenham against Norwich after a “show of confidence” from Antonio Conte.

That’s according to former Leeds stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the defender’s recent outings.

Sanchez, 25, had a night to forget on 25 November as Spurs lost to 2-1 to Slovenian side FC Mura.

Many fans blamed him for both goals but the defender retained his place in the starting XI for last weekend’s (28 November) postponed game against Burnley.

He also started against Brentford through the week and Kenny expects him to keep his place for the foreseeable future.

“A lot of fans were annoyed when Sanchez came back in,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I have a slightly different view, in that footballers make mistakes. It’s part of the game.

“Sanchez had a stinker v Mura but you can’t just say ‘right that’s it, he’s finished here’.

“It was a huge show of confidence from Conte. Sanchez has now had another game where he did ok.

“That will give him the confidence to not have another game as he did against Mura.

“With Romero being out injured, Tottenham can’t afford to not play their better defenders.

“With these things, it’s all about how you respond. He didn’t do badly against Brentford so I’m sure he’ll start against Norwich.”

On Wednesday (1 December) journalist Jonathan Veal quoted Antonio Conte as saying Cristian Romero, 23, may not play again until February.

The defender suffered a hamstring injury in Argentina’s World Cup qualifier against Brazil on 16 November.
