Pundit issues 'unbelievable' Alexander Isak claim after journalist's Newcastle United update

Newcastle United will not make an attacking signing in January with Alexander Isak soon to return to full fitness.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the attacker’s recovery.

Newcastle United have been without Isak, 23, for their last eight Premier League games after he picked up a muscle injury while on international duty in October.

On 11 November, journalist Craig Hope reported that the attacker’s injury has now fully healed and should be fit to play in Newcastle’s December 14 friendly game against Rayo Vallecano.

McManus insists Isak will be like a new signing for the club, meaning they may not bolster their attack in January.

“He started so well and we haven’t seen him since,” McManus told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It’s actually been really quiet and it must have been hard for him. He joined the club, barely saw his teammates and he has not been able to train.

“You hope he has been in and around the training ground, getting to know everyone and knowing what is going on.

“In any case, he will be like a new signing. I know people don’t like that phrase, it kind of lets clubs off the hook if they don’t make any signings in January.

“But Newcastle have a £70million striker coming back as they look to stay in the top four, so it is like a brand new signing.

“He will add so much if he can stay fit because he looked unbelievable when he started.”

Isak scored twice in three games for the Magpies before getting injured.

He was signed to aid the injury-prone Callum Wilson, who has scored six times in 11 games this season.
