Pundit issues 'unbelievable' Darwin Nunez claim as Liverpool footage analysed

The World Cup break could not have come at a worse time for Darwin Nunez and Liverpool.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Uruguayan’s newfound form.

Nunez, 23, scored twice as Liverpool beat Southampton 3-1 on Saturday.

These were his fourth and fifth Premier League goals in 10 appearances.

McManus was impressed with what he saw and insists the World Cup break could either make or break Nunez’s season.

“I think we are now starting to see the player Liverpool fans hoped they had signed,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“He has taken a while to settle into the club but I think he has got something, we all know that. He did well at Benfica but he has struggled to get going at Liverpool.

“When you come in for that fee there is an expectation that you come in and score goals for fun straight away. It’s a totally different league though.

“If you watch the goals, he took them very well, especially the first one, that was an unbelievable finish. Liverpool are just starting to hit a bit of form now.

“It couldn’t come at a worse time with the World Cup break. It will be interesting to see how Liverpool and Nunez respond after the World Cup.

“Nunez might go away and score a load of goals and come back even better. That would be ideal.”

Liverpool enter the break sixth in the Premier League table.

They are seven points off fourth-placed Tottenham with a game in hand.
