Pundit issues ‘wonderful’ Jordan Pickford verdict after Everton injury update via Sky
Frank McAvennie has claimed Jordan Pickford “will be missed” by Everton while he recovers from injury.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said the 28-year-old is “a wonderful” goalkeeper.
On 7 September, the club confirmed that Pickford had picked up a thigh injury in the 0-0 draw with Liverpool (3 September).
As reported by Sky Sports (7 September), the England international faces a month on the sidelines after straining his thigh.
Asmir Begovic is now Frank Lampard’s only fit keeper as Andy Lonergan is absent with a knee problem.
McAvennie insisted Pickford will not lose his number one spot while he is sidelined.
“Anyone like Pickford is going to be missed,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s not somebody that’s going to come in and have to fight for his place. He’s going to chill for a couple of weeks because he knows he’ll come straight back to his place in the team.
“He’ll be able to take his time getting back. He’ll come back in but he might be able to take a couple of days extra to make sure he’s fit. But he’s a good keeper. He’s had people point the finger at him but I think he’s a wonderful keeper.“

Pickford has started every Premier League game for the Merseyside club so far this season.
During those outings he has conceded six goals and kept one clean sheet.
