Pundit issues ‘worrying’ Chelsea dressing room verdict after angry outburst
Kevin Campbell has insisted Chelsea may be suffering from behind-the-scenes issues after their “worrying” start to the new campaign.
The former Arsenal striker was speaking exclusively to Football Insider in the wake of the Blues’ 2-1 away loss at Southampton on Tuesday (31 August).
As quoted by the BBC (31 August), manager Thomas Tuchel insisted his players “toughen up and show a different mentality” after the Southampton loss.
He claimed it is “too easy to put us off balance, to beat us, to confuse us” in reference to his side’s “soft” display.
Chelsea completed the deadline day (1 September) signings of Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Juventus midfielder Denis Zakaria.
Wesley Fofana also sealed his mega-money move to Stamford Bridge from Leicester City on Tuesday (31 August).
Campbell suggested their three new faces may not transform Chelsea’s outlook immediately.
He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think Fofana and Aubameyang will improve them, but that isn’t the full picture.
“But sometimes you’ve got to look at the manner of these defeats – it’s worrying. It’s Leeds and Southampton they have been beaten by now – and Chelsea did a number on them last season.
“Something may be wrong in the dressing room – and that is something Thomas Tuchel will have to rectify – and fix it quick.
“They won’t want to fall even further behind Arsenal, Man City and other top teams.”

Chelsea have picked up seven points from their opening five games this term.
They begin their Champions League campaign next week (6 September) against Dinamo Zagreb.
