Pundit: 'I've never seen anything like it' as 'embarrassing' Man United manager footage slammed

Frank McAvennie has slammed Man United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for signing off on an exit interview.

The former West Ham striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, labelled the move “embarrassing”.

On 21 November, Man United released a “farewell interview” with Solskjaer following his dismissal.

Solskjaer was sacked earlier that day after Saturday’s 4-1 loss to Watford.

Towards the end of the clip, the Old Trafford legend looks visibly upset as he discusses what managing the club meant to him.

McAvennie couldn’t believe what he was seeing when the footage appeared on his TV.

“Ole, do yourself a favour,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He was crying on the TV. You are a football manager for heaven’s sake.

“It was embarrassing. I know he loves the club but he’s just had a massive payoff.

“He will be remembered for scoring that goal in the final and he is a club legend.

“I don’t know why they made him do that, why did he let them do that?

“I’ve never seen anything like it. He should have been with his family and friends.

“Instead the club exposed him to the world like that. I really didn’t think that was fair.”

Man United are eighth in the Premier League ahead of this weekend’s trip to Chelsea.

Michael Carrick will lead the side after winning his first game in charge against Villarreal on Tuesday.
