Pundit 'just can't believe' what he has seen from Eddie Howe as Newcastle United footage analysed

Eddie Howe’s ability to improve players at Newcastle United is “massive” for the club.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Howe’s first year in the job.

Tuesday (8 November) marked one year at Newcastle United for Howe, who has overseen a dramatic turnaround in form.

When the former Bournemouth man took over, the Magpies were in the relegation zone and winless from 13 games.

At the same point this season, Newcastle are third in the Premier League, only losing one league game.

McManis has been blown away by the job Howe has done.

“When he came in I thought Newcastle were doomed and getting relegated,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“He has signed incredibly well. That is massive for any manager, recruitment. He signed proven players in the Premier League.

“Big boy Dan Burn, Trippier, Targett, Wood. Wood isn’t a regular but he is proven and he has scored goals, guys like that are invaluable.

“The best thing for Howe has been the improvement in some of the players who were already there, that’s massive as well. Almiron is the prime example at the moment.

“He played a lot but didn’t get goals or assists, now he is producing, flying. His numbers are through the roof.

“Newcastle have the best defensive record in the league and look lethal going forward. The quality of finishing against Southampton was sublime, if you watch they are all right in the bottom corner.

“You just can’t believe what you have seen in such a short space of time.”

Howe was rewarded with a new contract before the start of the 2022-23 Premier League season.

The club have so far refused to say how long the deal is, describing it only as “long term”.
